He is a professor of international law and foreign policy at the Department of International, European and Regional Studies of Panteion University. In the elections of July 2019, May and June 2023, he was elected Member of Parliament for the 1st District of Athens with New Democracy.
He is a graduate of the Law School of the University of Athens and a Doctor of Laws from the University of Bristol.
He has served as Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs responsible for higher education (2021-23), Secretary General of Population at the Ministry of Interior (2012-2015) and Special Secretary for Intercultural Education at the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs (2007-2009).
He has published seven books and several scholarly articles on Greek-Turkish relations, the Law of the Sea, the Cyprus problem, the Balkans, minorities, migration and the Asia Minor Catastrophe. In February 2023, he published his latest book on the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne.
He is married to Irene Stamatoudi, a professor of Law at the University of Nicosia, and they have three children.
