Being prepared for what may come our way has become perhaps more difficult these days, but also more necessary than ever… The speed of technological development is frenetic. Ιt goes beyond all imagination and expectation. And at the same time that society struggles to keep up with these high development rates, there are major changes and upheavals due to – seemingly – uncontrollable events (climate crisis, pandemic, wars).
This contemporary reality imposes new rules which require plasticity, flexibility, adaptability and new ways of thinking beyond established norms. And since today nothing is linearly stable, almost ‘automated’ management practices become completely ineffective.
Within this context, business leaders are required to develop their lifelong leadership skills, to learn and (mainly) unlearn, to be the first to adapt to the new reality circumstances, to balance the destabilising forces, to push their partners to think outside the box and to invent new ways of acting in order to respond immediately and positively to challenges that are sudden and, often, not expected.
Dr. Charles Spinosa, a speaker at our conference in May, in his interview in this issue of ‘Leading EACE’ addresses and analyses his interesting perspective on existential plasticity – that is, the transformation that is required when an organization’s social purpose is under threat (e.g. due to the acceleration of technology).
And speaking of our journal, I would like to express our satisfaction and joy for the start of the cooperation of the Association of Chief Executive Officers with the printing & publishing company Direction Business Network.
Being old partners with my dear friend and acclaimed publisher Mr. Vangelis Papalios since the time we printed “Leadership & Management”, we meet again to work on the renewal of the ‘Leading ΕΑΣΕ’ journal by continuing its excellent course well thought-out articles and topics that are of high importance to all of you, our members and readers!
The successful presence of Vangelis in the publishing industry is a guarantee that we are in good hands… Happy (new) beginning!
