The energy crisis can act as a means of accelerating our transition to Renewable Energy Sources
Despite the fact that the situation in the country is confused and contradictory due to the inflation crisis, the country’s prospects are very positive as growth is estimated to reach and perhaps exceed 5% while this year’s tourism season is predicted to be almost at the same levels as in 2019, which it was the peak year for Greek tourism.
This was the general conclusion drawn from the speeches of the Minister of Finance,
Mr. Christos Staikouras, and the the Minister of Development and Investments, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, who addressed the members of the Association of Chief Executive Officers (ACEO), at the Annual General Meeting of the Association held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the OTEAcademy auditorium.
Mr. Vassilis Rabbat, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Chief Executive Officers (ACEO) and President and Managing Director at XEROX HELLAS, extended a warm welcome to the Minister of Finance, Mr. Christos Staikouraswho attended the General Meeting as an official speaker representing the Government, pointing out that his presence at the General Meeting is a special honour for the Association and its members.
The Minister of Finance, Mr. Christos Staikouras,praised the role of ACEO as crucial production factor contributing decisively towards an era of economic growth for the country. In his speech, he referred to the measures taken by the government to support society, highlighting the positive course of the country, the large increase in new investments that occurred in 2021, while also the fact that the deposits in Greek banks have increased by 40 billion Euros. Mr. The Minister stressed that the health crisis measures during the years 2020-2022 that were taken to tackle the situation amounted to € 43.3 billion Euros, while the measures for the energy crisis will reach up to 2 billion Euros.
In a similar tone the Minister of Development and Investments, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis,,said that the country on a sustained positive track – pointing out that Greece is the second fastest growing country in the EU at the moment – and he predicted that this year that the revenues of the tourist season are expected to exceed every expectation. Turning to the managers – members of the Association who know about crisis management, Mr. Georgiadis that the energy crisis – although it is by no means desirable – could be a means of accelerating our transition to renewable energy sources, as seen recently in relation to health crisis acting as a means of accelerating for the digital transformation of the Public and Private sectors. The Minister stressed that the country has a plan to deal with this crisis and he trusted that the consequences of the rising inflation crisis will be of a short-term nature.
Finally, Mr. Α. Georgiadis welcomed the recent signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Association of Chief Executive Officers (ACEO) and the Ministry of Development to support the ‘Elevate Greece’ initiative, stating that the Association and its members contribute decisively to the promotion of innovation in Greece.
The items on the General Meeting’s agenda concerned the Adoption of the Annual Report on the Activities of ACEO, the Adoption of the Management Report of the Board of Directors and the Adoption of the Annual Balance Sheet of the Company, as well as the Adoption of the Action Plan and the Adoption of the Budget for 2022. There were presentations carried out by the heads of the respective working groups, Mr. Yannis Papachristou, General Secretary of the Board of ACEO, Deputy CEO at Chipita Foods SA, Mr. George Katiniotis, Member of the ACEO Board of Directors, CEO at MYRMEX Inc. and Annie Tryfon, alternate member of the ACEO Board of Directors, Vice Chairman & CEO at Designia Insurance Brokers, with a view to strengthening entrepreneurship and the digital transformation of ACEO.
